Tuesday on the Town - Are You Ready for More?

Hampton Area Chamber of Commerce, HACC, and the Franklin County Tourism, FCT, are pleased to announce the success of “Tuesday on the Town” held on June 16, 2009, so much that both organizations will be sponsoring another Tuesday on the Town on June 23.

The event was scheduled to promote the downtown businesses, restaurants and taverns. It showcased Franklin County’s strong music background. While the threat of rain moved the Farmer’s market featured performer, Clay Underwood, http://www.clayunderwoodmusic.com/, into the Windsor Theatre, http://www.windsortheatre.com/. This provided the historical nonprofit Windsor to transform from a movie theater back to its 1913 roots of a live performance opera house, when local radio station KLMJ transformed the stage and provided sound while promoting a fund raiser for Relay for Life.

People were amazed by the acoustics and ambiance of a nearly century old remodeled Windsor Theatre. At 5:00pm the nearly packed house enjoyed a wonderful performance by Chamber member, Cuts on Corner owner Tina Deardeuff, while Clay Underwood brought the house to its feet by playing until 7:00. The $2 Tuesday show had more than they had anticipated when Mr. Underwood stayed in the theater lobby for pictures and fan appreciation before the evening movie showing.

The retailers enjoyed a wonderful stream of shoppers the whole night, while new chamber member, Willie’s Sports Bar owner Willie Knipfel said people loved coming downtown and seeing all the excitement. He said our Tuesday night pool tournament was packed and our patrons loved seeing clowns walking around the square. HACC and FCT provided Diz and Dot, the crazy balloon giving business promoting clowns, were strolling around the streets and businesses making children and adult break into smiles.

The main event, however, was Brian Stevens conducting Iowa’s best Municipal Band with featured solos from Leon Kuener and Talia Popp. Mr. Stevens has been conducting the band for over 30 years and the June concert attendance shows that people can’t get enough of this band. While early morning rain might have deterred some people from Hampton’s Bandshell Park, Mr. Stevens stated that with the weather conditions, he was impressed that the park was almost full during the concert.

Because of the overwhelming success the Hampton Area Chamber of Commerce and Franklin County Tourism are planning another Tuesday on the Town on June 23. It will follow the same format with the Farmer’s Market on the Square, Retail Shops open until 8:00pm, $2 Tuesday at the Windsor Movie Theatre, Taverns serving special libations, a free concert in the Farmer’s Market from 5-7:00pm and Iowa’s oldest and best Municipal Band conducted by Brian Stevens at 8:00pm at the Bandshell Park on the south side of the square in Hampton, Iowa.

Deb's Corner

Where’s Deb This Week?

I have the opportunity to represent the media (bloggers, twitterers and newspapers like this one) at a conference in Chicago this week. They will be talking about social media use inside your company.

The conference will present an overview of how some companies are using the new tools to communicate, share knowledge, build relationships and collaborate more powerfully. But it's a brave new social media world behind the firewalls.

This is the conference to learn which of the new tools make the most sense for your organization and low-risk ways to introduce them. They include employee morale in a down economy, engaging diverse and far-flung employees across generations, how to blend old and new communication channels, leveraging front-line supervisors, and much more. There will be "economy-driven" topics, but also plenty of sessions that will give you the edge on what's next, and what you need to be doing this year to deliver more value and ROI from your social media - internal communications efforts.

Watch this corner and the website for updates from the conference—and how it will help our local businesses!

Has your company sent you to a conference? We’d like to share your stories here! Why not give Deb a call at 458-1114

What does your abdomen look like inside?
With thermography, we can look at your body up close and record thermal patterns with amazing accuracy. These patterns are analyzed to look for abnormalities in the physiology. Wouldn't it be helpful to know if there is any inflammatory response in the abdomen before you start a cleanse regimen?
